Core brief
Research and develop a Rephotography project focusing on a given area Salford, and in response the photographic work held in the collection at Salford Museum and Art Gallery. Students will exhibit one image from this project at Salford Museum and Art Gallery between 3 May 2014 and 29 June 2014. Level 4 students are also responding to the collection and will be showing books during this exhibition period.Options:
Your option should help you contextualise your current
awareness of the photographic industry and then relate this to possible career
paths within the Creative Industries you will choose one of the following
‘routes’ through which to satisfy the learning outcomes of this Unit:
Work placement:
Please arrange a work placement with a professional
photographic practitioner (or equivalent) for at least one working day. Whilst
on your placement you are to write a reflective report, which tracks your
personal experiences and response to the place at which you work – what have
you learnt about working in the photographic industry. It is advisable to
analyse a commission, assignment or project being worked on by your mentor and
document. You should comment on the way in which the brief is fulfilled. In
this review you must outline the brief, explore any constraints, review how the photographer interpreted
the brief and then evaluate the final outcomes of the commission.
Or
Interview
Depending on the area of professional photographic
practice you see yourself working within in the
future, it might be more appropriate to gain a wider
understanding of the industry as whole. Equally for those not continuing in
photography, but who might be considering other roles within the creative
industries, the same might apply. For this route your work experience will take
the form of a research project. You will conduct an
interview with a professional, through who you develop
a greater understanding of the industry, expected career paths, expectations of
commissioners or curators and perhaps organisational structures (where
appropriate).
Your interview may be with a picture editor, solo
practitioner, curator, art director, PR agent or picture library etc.
